Set Up Microsoft Defender for Endpoint (MDE) on Android
1. Check for the App Installation
Ensure that the Microsoft Defender for Endpoint app is installed on your device. You should see the app icon on your home screen or in google play store.
Tap on the Microsoft Defender for Endpoint app icon to open it.
The app will request various permissions to function correctly. These will include access to your device's storage, Display Over Other Apps, Accessibility, Permanent Protection, and other necessary features. Tap Begin to grant these permissions.
When you tap begin, you will be guided through each step to approve the permissions.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the onboarding process.:
Periodically open the Microsoft Defender for Endpoint app to ensure it is running correctly and that your device remains protected.
If any of these permissions appear to get stuck, try closing the app and reopening it. This should re-prompt you to set the remaining permissions.
The MDE App has three main Areas See Below for what each of these does.
Threat Detection: Monitors and detects malicious apps and activities on your device.
App Control: Helps manage and control app permissions and behaviors to prevent unauthorized access and data leakage.
Anti-Phishing: Protects against phishing attacks by blocking malicious websites and links.
Safe Browsing: Ensures safe browsing by preventing access to harmful websites. On iOS, this feature uses a local VPN to monitor and filter web traffic
Rogue Wi-Fi Detection: Identifies and alerts you to potentially unsafe Wi-Fi networks and rogue hardware like pineapple devices. You can also run a scan to detect secure network to connect to.
Certificate Detection: Monitors and detects suspicious network certificates to prevent man-in-the-middle attacks These features work together to provide a robust security framework for our mobile devices, helping to protect data and privacy.
